About Us
Stour Environmental Credits (SEC) is a not-for-profit organisation formed through the collaboration of Ashford Borough Council and Canterbury City Council. Under the governance of a Board of Directors and registered at Companies House, our dedicated team efficiently manages the day-to-day operations.
At SEC, our mission is to enable sustainable development across the Stour catchment that balances the protection and enhancement of the environment with the creation of much-needed homes and development opportunities. We strive to balance environmental, social, and economic considerations by offering a platform where developers can purchase nutrient neutrality credits for phosphorus and nitrogen for use in developments within the Stour Catchment
As a not-for-profit, the proceeds from these sales will be invested in local initiatives that further mitigate nutrient pollution in the catchment, in line with Kent County Council's Stodmarsh Catchment Nutrient Mitigation Strategy.
Please see the River Stour Catchment map [pdf] 983KB for an indicative outline of the catchment area concerned.
